Job Description
Duties
A major role of the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) is to undertake the Australian Census of Population and Housing (Census), the largest statistical collection undertaken in Australia involving every household and person. The Census is conducted every 5 years with the next proposed for August 2011.
This challenging and rewarding position is responsible for providing strategic leadership as the Head of the 2011 Census Data Processing Centre (DPC), established in Melbourne to process the data from the Census. The occupant of the position will be responsible for directly supervising senior managers, managing a large budget, and have prime responsibility for producing high quality outcomes within tight time frames. Primarily you have the ability to lead a large scale processing centre with complex statistical processes. At its peak, over 800 staff will be employed at the DPC with the majority being temporary.
The position requires an energetic person with very strong leadership and motivational skills. You must also have outstanding liaison skills and excellent judgment in a statistical context. As part of the Census Executive Team you will need to work at both a strategic and operational level, and to present balanced solutions, often with both pro-active and reactive elements.
Eligibility
This position may be offered to existing APS employees on temporary transfer at level or higher duties, or on a non-ongoing contract.
